ABOUT GAD:
Gender and Development (GAD) is a United Nation's (UN) program where incorporating gender-sensitive perspective is not an option but an obligation of the State for all persons, men and women. The imperative nature of the changes in the service of fairness and equal treatment is not based only on the fact that there are international instruments of human rights protection and in particular the rights of women.
UNDP promotes equality through 'gender mainstreaming.' The organization's corporate strategy is to integrate women's empowerment and equality into the organization's core business. The strategy calls for gender mainstreaming to become everyone's job – not the responsibility of a small number of specialists.
'Gender mainstreaming' was defined by the United Nations Economic and Social Council in 1997 as 'a strategy for making women's as well as men’s concerns and experiences an integral dimension of...the policies and programmes in all political, economic and societal spheres so that women and men benefit equally and inequality is not perpetuated.'
